The DSW-II-20 is a significant repackaging of an earlier model.... The DSW-II-20 was introduced as a beta at the Atlanticon 2003 meet (3/2003). It is a 20m CW transceiver with an output of  0 to 4 watts. The vfo is DDS which achieves crystal type stability while still allowing full band coverage. The radio has a has a built in Keyer (mode B), Full band RIT, and Morse code frequency annunicator. The sidetone is fixed at 800hz with the IF filter BW is about 500hz. The rig will operate on a supply voltage of 8-15v dc with a RX current draw of about 55ma.

This DSW-II-20 I received in October of '03 after a shipment wait of  3 months (yes, it was worth it!). The kit goes together quite easily, thanks to the excellent manual. I spent about 6 hours to assemble it without a hitch. It only requires 2 alignment steps;  of  peaking  T1 for max RX signal and matching the BFO to the offset. (the matching of the BFO to the Sidetone is very easily done using  one of the listed computer programs or by ear)

The radio put out a maximum of 4 watts (by Oak Hill meter) with a 13.9v supply... running off of a 12v gell cell lowered the output to about 3.5 watts max (as to be expected). I was able to adjust the output from 0w out up to the maximum, so QRPp operation is also possible if desired. The full QSK is a wonder to hear, it's surprising that the small companies can get it right while most of the commercial ones can't.

As to the RX, the radio is excellent. Tuning steps of  50/200 hz with 4.8 khz per dial rotation on the larger ( works well just to think of 5 khz steps per turn to move around quickly ). The RIT has no bounds and is shown as on by the LED. The Gain control is  all the way up only if you want to hurt your ears when someone keys up, I found the best setting of about 2/3 of the full turn. The rig has a default startup frequency of 14.060 but will also come up on 15 mhz for WWV if the RIT is held on during power-up.

In all, a very nice radio to add to anyone's collection.

Thanks again to Dave Benson for this one!

**( The DSW -II line now comes in 20, 30, 40, and 80m... 5w on those other than 20m  )**
