General Information
The Rockland Astronomy Club is a non profit educational organization composed of more than 170 people who share an interest in Amateur Astronomy. Membership in the club is open to individuals and their families regardless of their knowledge about the science of Astronomy.
Meetings
RAC holds its regular member meetings on the third Saturday of the month, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at various locations. All meetings are open to the general public and are free.
Activities
RAC holds monthly "Joy of the Universe" public star parties, at which the public is always welcome. They are held on Saturday evenings during the months of April through October at Anthony Wayne State Park and Lake Sebago Beach.
Each April or May RAC sponsors the "Northeast Astronomy Forum and Telescope Show" at the Holiday Inn in Suffem, New York. In 1997, this full day of talks and lectures, by professional and amateur astronomers, with commercial displays of astronomical equipment by manufacturers and retail vendors, attracted over 1000 amateur astronomers from states as far away as Maine, Florida, Texas, and Oregon, etc. looking for bargains on equipment to enrich their hobby.
The Annual Summer Star Party & Family Camping Vacation is held for a full week each July or August at Shady Pine Campground located in the Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts. This site rivals some of the best found along the East Coast.

Other Items of Interest
In addition to scheduled observing activities, RAC holds periodic indoor meetings at various locations in Rockland County where programs are presented that focus on specific aspects of Astronomy. Among the most popular are topics relating to the purchase and use of astronomical telescopes -- where to find them, what to look for, and which ones to avoid.
One does not have to own a telescope to belong to RAC. A loaner 14-inch Dobsonian telescope is available for the membership.
RAC is also a beneficent club often bequeathing a portion of its Astronomy Forum revenues to other astronomy organizations.
