Charlie Black Reports from Vietnam in 1968!

Charlie Black has been called the Ernie Pyle of Vietnam. He was a reporter for the Columbus (GA) Enquirer who traveled to Vietnam at least five times to report the war.

In 1968, he tagged along with the 3/17th, writing a series of articles about A, B, C and D Troops. Those stories have been compiled by Bill Nevius at the D Troop website...As a retired Marine, Charlie combined his knowlege and appreciation of the military with great story-telling skills. Please take the time and jump over to the D Troop website pages on Charlie Black and his stories about B Troop and the 3/17th.

Memorial to members of 3/17th Air Cav who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of their country....Reunion, August 31, 2002, Washington D.C.

If you were a member of B Troop and served in the Republic of Vietnam from 1967 to 1972, then this is your website. The war has been over for more than 30 years and the politics and engine (the Cold War) that drove the military action are history. What does remain are the people who depended on each other and shared the unique experience of serving in the 3/17th Air Cavalry. This site is about the people of B Troop, Helicopters, Air Cavalry, the humorous recollections, the close calls and near misses; most of all, this is a place to say 'hi' and 'do you remember..?' to each other once again. If you are new here, be sure to try the Rotorhead Links to visit the 3/17th HHT, A Troop, C Troop and the D Troop site. Also take a few minutes to visit the Squadron Honor Roll honoring the men who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Our webpages will always be an ongoing 'work in progress' as well as photo and graphic intensive. Since it's been 30 years, please give the pages a few minutes to download.
