Mansfield Associates Inc.

Mansfield Associates, Inc. is the world's leading broker of used aerial photo interpretation equipment, aerial surveillance and aerial photo processing equipment.  We also broker aircraft parts, aircraft test sets, aircraft maintenance instruments and selected other categories of equipment as described below.  No other company in the world can equal our selection of Bausch and Lomb  Model 240 stereoscopes, Model 500 stereoscopes, Bausch and Lomb zoom transfer scopes and Richards light tables.

We have also pioneered in technologies that allow photo interpreters to take the enlarged high resolution photos they study through optical stereoscopes and transfer those images to PC computers for further study, measurement and manipulation.  These technical advances represent the merger of  the high resolution advantages of  the optical world with the data management advantages of the digital world.  This kind of expertise has enabled Mansfield Associates to service clients in intelligence communities around the globe, defense contractors such as Lockheed Martin and Space Imaging, geologists, environmentalists, foresters, engineers, lawyers, city planners, mapping specialists and others who understand the advantages of the study of both historical and contemporary aerial photos.

Click here for Photo Interpretation List

This category includes photo interpretation (also known as image interpretation) equipment. Photo interpretation equipment is equipment that assists operators in the identification of details they see in photographs taken from aircraft or satellites. We have the full range of equipment from mirror stereoscopes used by foresters and geologists to the same models of highly sophisticated instruments like the Bausch and Lomb Model 500  stereoscope currently in use in American military facilities like the Pentagon.  We have every aerial photo stereoscope produced by Bausch and Lomb including the famous Bausch and Lomb Model 240; as well as a large selection of Richards light tables including the top of the line Richards HFO-4 mensuration light table.  Because Washington D.C. is the center of photo interpretation in the world, we are able to have our equipment refurbished and calibrated by the most highly trained specialists available in the photo interpretation field.

We also have the full line of Bausch and Lomb mono and stereo zoom transfer scopes that are used to transfer data from aerial photographs to maps. And we have mapping equipment such as the famous Kern PMG2 point transfer instrument, the Wild Pug 4 point transfer instrument,  the Kern CPM1 stereocomparator, and the IMA Zeiss P1 based stereoplotter. Also included in our inventory of equipment relating to aerial photography is a full line of equipment used in aerial photography processing laboratories. Again some of this equipment is the most advanced ever designed--like the Kodak Colorado aerial photo color printer and the Kodak 1B sensitometer. Another example is our MacDonald Dettwiler Model Fire 240 laser film recorder, which--like those used by the NASA for their Neptune photos--turns digital signals from satellite cameras into extremely high resolution aerial photographs.

Included in our inventory are thousands of unused, heavily discounted parts for the Kodak Versamat, the premier aerial photo processor in the world and the Kodak Colorado color printer, the fastest aerial photo color printer in the world.

This category of equipment includes ultramicrotomes such as the Sorvall MT-2 and MT-6000, the LKB Nova, the Reichert Ultracut, Reichert Polycut S motorized sliding microtome and the hard to find Reichert Cryopolycut Model CM3500. The Reichert Polycut S and the Reichert Cryopolycut are both motorized sliding microtomes capable of cutting larger specimens  such as small primates and large rats. The Reichert Cryopolycut has the capacity to freeze the specimen before cutting. Other microtomes include the Sorvall JB4, the American Optical 820 and the LKB Historange motorized microtome.  We also have LKB knifemakers to cut the glass knives needed for these instruments and an extensive line of used histology equipment.  In addition to medical lab we also have industrial quality control lab equipment such as Leco sulfur and carbon analyzers,  Research Laboratory optical emission spectrometers and comparison microscopes..

This category of equipment includes the almost impossible to find Perkin Elmer microdensitometer Model PDS. There were only 200 of these ever made. They are the indispensable tool of the research cell biologist. We also have the more widely used line scan microdensitometer made by Joyce Loebl.
