The Year Round:
Rockville Barnes & Noble.
Monthly demonstrations/lectures. At the corner of Randolph Road and Rockville Pike. Every 4th Monday of the month. 7-9 PM. For more information, contact John Goon at 301-315-8297. Ester Simmonds is the Rockville Barnes & Noble Community relations Manager. Demos started in Sept 2000.Lake Forest Mall Food Court. Casual drop-in play will be available on Monday evenings from roughly 7 to 930. Look for the congregation of chess players near the side entrance and you may find a go player lurking about. Capital Children's Museum. First Capture Go is taught to children by Museum staff at this Downtown DC location as part of their Japan exhibit. Local volunteers are welcome to help. For more info, contact John Goon at 301-315-8297. This project started June 2000.
Rockville Chess and Go Group. Weekly. Friday nights, 630 to 1030 PM. 401 South Horner Lane. Introduce/demo Go to the surrounding Rockville community. The group attracts young children and students from the neighborhood. Montgomery College is nearby, as are several public and private schools. The Rockville Rotary Club Foundation provided a $500 grant to establish this site. For more info, contact John Goon or Todd Heidenreich. This site opened June 22, 2001.
Montgomery County Gilchrist Center for Cultural Diversity. The Arthur Lewis Go Club held its first meeting on September 12, 2001. The Center is located in the Wheaton business district within two blocks of the Wheaton Metro station. Regular weekly meetings, workshops, tournaments, professional visits, etc. are planned. The County and the American Go Foundation provided $3900 in grants to establish this Go Program. Volunteers, especially students, are needed for a variety of tasks. Robert Frost Middle School Chess Group. This group met last year every Monday from 7 to 8. The start up this semester is unclear. It started in Fall 2000. The school is located off Scott Drive in Potomac/Rockville. If it begins again, they can use volunteers to guide play on 13x13 boards. Sandy Spring Friends School. This private school is located near Olney MD. They started an informal Go club in the Fall of 2000. The group needs experienced volunteers to help continue their development. Contact Chris Spears at fenris749@aol.com for more information.
Frederick Go Club. This fledgling club is dormant and needs support. Contact Bob Mills at frederickgo@earthlink.net to lend a hand.

Metropolitan Police Boys & Girls Clubs of DC. A pilot weekly go program in Anacostia that started in February 2001 and concluded in May 2001. Contact Brian Kleiner at BKle479839@aol.com for more information.
DC Public Schools. Liaison needed to propose and coordinate pilot programs with school administrators. Contact John Goon for more information.
Chinese Community and Cultural Center. Coordinator and liaison needed to develop and implement pilot teaching programs at local Chinese language schools in MD and Northern VA. Contact John Goon for more information.
Washington School of Chinese Language and Culture. This school holds classes every Sunday during the school year at the Wootton HS. With the Fall 2001 semester, they added a new weiqi class and assistant instructors are needed. Contact John Goon for more information.
Web Researchers and IT Support. Help needed to locate schools and organizations receptive to Go demos, and private/public foundations with an interest in Go/Chess mission. Contact John Goon for more information

Hope Chinese Language School of Gaithersburg at Ridge View MS. They are looking for instructors to teach next Fall 2001. Saturdays for one hour. Contact John Goon for info.
Rockville Chinese Cultural & Community Center at Tilden MS. They conducted a Go demonstration/talk in March and are considering setting up a teaching program in Fall 2001. Contact John Goon for info.
March 31. Cherry Blossom Festival. The Sakura Matsuri had a Go demonstration booth. Mark Laing, Bruce McJelton, and John Goon participated.

This program is well stocked and only needs players and volunteers to sustain the weekly meetings, monthly workshops, information management, grant writing, and ethnic community liaisons.
DREAM WIZARDS STORE. The store on Parklawn Drive offers both Chess and Go play during the week. The Go playing date/time is every Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM. Volunteers are needed to provide a presence while the store expands its marketing of the game. The sale of Go equipment is apparently brisk.

ADELPHI ES. This Prince Georges County school needs weekly volunteers to set up and sustain a Federal/State supported after-school program for the 2001-2 school year. Contact John Goon for details.
WASHINGTON SCHOOL OF CHINESE LANGUAGE AND CULTURE. Meets every Sunday at the Wootton High School on Wootton Parkway. A 14-week Weichi class for high schoolers started in September 2001. A 7-week class will begin in November. Contact instructor John Goon to offer your support. Classes last for one hour during the mid-afternoon. Class size may vary from 20 to 25. The class will also be taught in the Spring of 2002.

Prospects include Redland MS (Gaithersburg), LuxManor ES (Rockville), Chelsea School (Silver Spring), Richard Montgomery HS (Rockville), Clopper Mill ES (Germantown), Albert Einstein HS (Kensington), and several Chinese Community Language Schools (located at Hoover MS, Ridgeview MS, West MS, and Tilden MS).
