View Chinese Web Documents without a Chinese System
This form allows you to select the URL for a web page containing
Chinese characters. It will return that web page with the characters
replaced by GIF files. This may sound like a lot of files, but a relatively
small number of characters make up the bulk of common Chinese text. To
speed up downloading, make sure you have caching turned on for your
browser and you have a large disk and memory cache size.
There may be some problems clicking on external links. I've tried to make
that possible but may have missed some cases. Java applets will also not load.
For URL's that just end in a site name or directory, be sure to end it with
a slash to make the external links work properly. For example, for my home
page the best format is "http://www.erols.com/eepeter/" rather than
"http://www.erols.com/eepeter". For URL's that end with an html file, you do
not need to do anything special. Also frames may appear, but they will
not get processed (i.e. Chinese characters will not appear for them).
There are probably other problems I haven't found yet. I'm
working on them all and would appreciate hearing suggestions
or ideas. Enjoy!
