I personally like this book.  Very easy and clear and I have met Ms. Rossbach when we shared a forum on Chinese Ancient Wisdom at China Book.  She was very warm and kind and simple. I had also met with her master Lin Yun, powerful Fengshui and Tantric master.

Taoist Texts


Tao Magic : The Secret Language of Diagrams and Calligraphy                      by Laszlo Legeza --excellent book and text on the ancient Taoist magical cloud script and talisman.  It also contained the Great Bear North Polar Mystical Steps, a very crucial Taoist Alchemical Ritual.
Tao Te Ching : A New English Version -- Stephen Mitchell; Paperback
Very well written translation and poetic too.  But some time there is too much freedom in the textual translation of the ancient chinese text.
Tao Te Ching -- Gia-Fu Feng(Translator), et al; Paperback
A photographic illustration and translation of the text.  Very popular during the 1960 with the hippie generation.

Give that to your mom kids and she will go all nostalgic about the 60's.
wonderful book very beautifully done and translated by a true Chinese Taoist master who used to be a banker from Shanghai.  And then end up teaching Tai Chi at Esalen CA.
The Classic of the Way and Virtue : A New Translation of the Tao-Te Ching of Laozi As Interpreted by Wang Bi (Translations from the Asian Classics) -- Lao-Tzu, et al; Hardcover


Wang Bi was a genius in his understanding of the Tao.  He died too young.  His rendition is very metaphysical and influence many later Chinese thinkers.  But his work is too much fluff and lead to a degeneration of the whole Taoist practice into a kind of intellectual Tao which can not even boil you a good cup of tea.
