Oakland: Taoists to come together for first major conference outside China
- Rick DelVecchio, Chronicle Staff Writer
Friday, October 29, 2004

Taoists are gathering in Oakland this weekend for a rare conference on their thousand-year-old spiritual tradition. They say it's the first contemporary gathering of its kind outside the Taoist homeland of China.

"This is the first time ever," said Sat Chuen Hon, a Taoist master who lives and teaches in New York. "It's not a Tai Chi conference or a Qi Gong conference. This is very, very rare."
